As chair of the CIC, I am one of a group of people who are called 'they'. You know -- they decided to provide these services in the CIC -- or, they decided to hold a meeting in this place on that date -- or, they should be making a statement on this issue. The implication of these statements is that, as the chair, the CIC is mine. I am they! And the members of the Boards of each society can say the same thing.
There is, however, something radically wrong with this thinking. The strength of any group cannot rest solely with its leadership. It is, instead, totally dependent on the quality of the involvement of its membership.
