NSW: Shot woman believed to be prostitute

Police believe a woman found shot dead in a western Sydney industrial area was a prostitute.

The woman's body was found in the middle of a road in an industrial area at Arndell
Park shortly before midnight.

She had suffered a number of gunshot wounds to the head and body.

Police say the woman hasn't been positively identified but was known in the area.

Acting Superintendent KERRY DOHERTY says police are 98 per cent sure they know who she is.

And police sources say the woman, believed to be aged in her 30s, was a local prostitute.

Forensic specialists and police divers are canvassing the area for clues to the murder.

The woman was shot on Murtha Street and police believe she ran 150 metres before collapsing
where she was found.

Police are appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity of Murtha Street at Arndell
Park last night to contact them.
