NSW: Rural businesses added to farm drought relief program
SYDNEY, Aug 10 AAP - NSW regional businesses suffering a downturn as a result of thedrought will be offered government help to retain specialist staff until the dry conditionsbreak.
NSW Minister for Rural Affairs Harry Woods said payroll tax relief would be offeredto country businesses relying on the prosperity of farmers - such as machinery suppliers.
The state government has declared 82 per cent of the state to be in drought and hasoffered farmers help in providing feed, water and transport for stock.
Mr Woods said it was important for rural business to be able to keep specialist staffduring and beyond the downturn.
Small country businesses can also apply for grants of up to $3,000 to engage an expertto help keep operations going, he said.
"As the drought continues, we recognise that there is an impact on country businesses,"
Mr Woods said.
